Description:

Erected in 1825, this church has elements of Georgian and Palladio architecture. It was constructed during the period of the Consolidated Slave Laws and is key to how Methodism became widespread throughout Jamaica. These laws were enacted to prevent the spread of other religions in Jamaica, particularly those of the African and Taíno slaves. The church was successful in overcoming the boundaries of the Consolidated Slave Laws and has hugely supported the integration of coloureds, blacks and whites. The Wesley Methodist Church is one of the few remaining churches where slaves worshipped.
