Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness

On average, approximately 2.3 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. In the month of October, we use various platforms and events to spread awareness about breast cancer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer globally, accounting for about 1 in 8 cancer diagnoses among women. The truth is, breast cancer can happen to any woman, and sadly, there is no guaranteed prevention. However, there are some lifestyle changes that may reduce the chances of developing breast cancer.
Regular Screening
When breast cancer is detected in its early stages, the outcome may be better. Self-exams are important for detecting any changes. Clinical exams should also be prioritized. Mammogram screenings can also be used to detect breast cancer. These screenings are recommended for women aged 40 to 50, depending on risk factors.
Healthy Eating Habits
The fewer processed foods, the better! Diets that include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are healthy choices. The Mediterranean diet, which includes healthy fats like olive oil, nuts, and fish, has been associated with a reduced breast cancer risk.
Change in Lifestyle Habits
Maintaining a healthy weight and staying active are key ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption.
Knowledge of Family History
The more knowledge we have of our family history, the more cautious we can be when it comes to reducing the risk of breast cancer. While family history is important, women must note that family history alone does not determine their chances of breast cancer. Even if no one in the family has had breast cancer, the necessary checks should still be done.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is said to reduce breast cancer risk, especially when done for several months or over an extended period. If breastfeeding is possible, it should be prioritized.
We all have women in our lives, so let us help spread awareness of breast cancer and beat this thing! Keep wearing your pink.
