Jamaican-born, New York-based artist Cheery Stewart-Josephs will have a pop-up exhibition titled Rooted on August 22 at the Pegasus Hotel, Belisario Suite from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Under the patronage of Margaret Reckord Bernal, Rooted is billed as a deeply personal homecoming and a celebration of identity, resilience, and rebirth.
Stewart-Josephs grew up in the hills of Manchester and very early developed her natural talent for drawing and painting. She studied briefly at the Edna Manley School of Art in Jamaica and then at the Visual School of Arts in New York City. A release says her early work got the attention of art critic Ansel Walters, founder of the Trafalgar Artist Cooperative. In 2013, Stewart-Josephs exhibited at Jamaica 60 at the country’s embassy in Washington, DC. Most recently, Stewart-Joseph was selected for Art in August, a 2021 virtual exhibition organized by the Port Authority of NY and NJ.
There will be an opening reception for Rooted on Thursday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m.
