The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Inter-American Institute for the Global Change Research (IAI) will host a Hurricane Symposium titled: Response and Resilience to Hurricanes in the Caribbean in a Changing Climate: Best Practices and Lessons Learned. This will take place on Thursday October 3rd, 2024, from 9:00AM - 1:00PM at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.
The overall aim of the symposium is to discuss the impact, and assess best practices and lessons learned from cyclonic events in the Caribbean region over the past 20 years – especially Hurricane Ivan (2004) and Hurricane Beryl (2024), and the experiences of Caribbean islands including, Jamaica, Grenada, the Cayman Islands and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
This is a hybrid event, with online participation expected across Latin America and the Caribbean. There is a strong youth advocacy component attached to this event as well.
The event will thus be conducted in English, with Spanish translation (live on ZOOM), so feel free to register for ONLINE PARTICIPATION here: https://bit.ly/47drZ6o (copy the link).
