The National Museum Jamaica presents its annual Heritage Debate, inviting the public to engage in a thought-provoking discussion on the motion:
“Should Jamaican Patois be considered an official language?”

This year’s debate will bring together bright student debaters from The Holy Trinity High School and The Pembroke Hall High School, who will present spirited arguments on both sides of this timely and culturally significant issue.

Event Details

  • Date: Friday, October 3, 2025
  • Time: 9am
  • Venue: Lecture Hall, Institute of Jamaica

The Heritage Debate provides a vital platform for young Jamaicans to explore pressing questions about language, culture, and identity, while encouraging public dialogue on the role of Jamaican Patois in national life.
