Everybody ready fi di road again! This summer is special because we all have been living with Covid-19 restrictions for two years and now want some fun in the sun. And although the pandemic is still with us, summer events are wooing patrons as they return to a more relaxed atmosphere. These include Mocha Fest, Festival of Floats, Zimi Seh Riva, Reggae SumFest, and Dream Weekend.
Event planners want to make up for financial losses, while patrons almost don’t care what it costs, We just want to be rid of the anxiety and feelings of loneliness Covid-19 brought. We are social animals and dearly miss the engagement with family, friends and even strangers.
First up is Mocha Fest, the urban Afro-America and Afro-Caribbean Negril festival. Their dates this year are from May 26th to 30th instead of the Memorial Day Weekend. Mocha Fest says its brand promotes freedom of self and expression and it has now grown to 7 destinations worldwide. Its 2021 event at Rick’s Café brought outrage when viral videos showed few patrons wearing masks while most Jamaicans were in lockdown.
We can get our float on at Pearly Beach in Ocho Rios on July 2nd at the Festival of Floats. There will be delicious food and a line-up of DJ’s. Note that the event is cooler friendly. Get ready for a FOFing good time and remember it’s only from 11am to 6pm.
The next day, July 3rd, join the ultimate food inclusive cooler party in Bog Walk, St. Catherine at the Tru Juice River in Linstead. Zimi Seh Riva selected this location for its naturally scenic and refreshingly cool atmosphere, a perfect getaway to relax and unwind. Zimi Seh Riva promises mouth-watering food and amazing music from 11am to 7pm.
Reggae SumFest is also back, with its usual themed evenings, including Dancehall, Reggae and International Nights. The venue is Catherine Hall, from July 18th to 23rd. The festival includes a free street dance on July 18th at Harmony Beach Park. See promo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGKDmM5JgEE
Dream Weekend says they are coming bigger and better this summer from July 29th to August 1st. They promise a jam packed weekend of parties, performances and great food and drink. Expect all genres of music as well as local and international artistes on the white sand beaches of Negril.
We’re sure you will enjoy these exceptionally entertaining and likely unforgettable experiences. But we advise you to take precautions. Wear your mask at these events, continue to sanitize your hands often, and don’t get too close or stuck in crowds. We know that is hard to do at a concert or party, but try your best! Make sure you are fully vaccinated, stay hydrated, drink responsibly, drive responsibly, and party responsibly!
