Originally called the Universal Negro Improvement and Conservation Association and African Communities (Imperial) League, this is the black nationalist fraternal organisation formed by Marcus Mosiah Garvey ONH in 1914 in Jamaica. Marcus Garvey chose to found this movement after travelling across Latin America and Europe and seeing the suffering of blacks. Its motto is ‘One God! One Aim! One Destiny!’
