A popular town in St. Thomas whose main feature are twin salt ponds said to be at times 15 times saltier than seawater. There is also the Yallahs fording, a rocky chasm with a thin trickle of the Yallahs River that has widened in the last 30 years because of climate change. Yallahs was one of the main towns where Taínos lived. The Spanish changed the name, thought to come from a 1671 privateer named Captain Yallahs or the Spanish word ‘yalos’ meaning frost for the white cliffs in the area. Today, the town is a bustling urban area with a mellow yet lively night life, and the Yallahs River is used to supply the Mona Reservoir.
